Sandakan: A total of 3,313 jerry cans and 5,899 packets containing subsidised cooking oil worth RM240,000 were seized from a licensed store at Jalan Labuk Lama here on Wednesday night.
Domestic Trade, Co-operatives and Consumerism Ministry (KPDNKK) Principal Assistant Director (Enforcement Division), Abdul Halim Pakri, said the controlled item was seized during a raid by the KPDNKK headquarters together with the ministry office here.He said it was believed that the cooking oil was going to be exported. Based on two weeks of surveillance and investigation, Abdul Halim, who led the raid, said they noted tankers from a licensed cooking oil packager often going in and out to send supply to the premises.
“Further inspection on the premises discovered a machine to do packaging for the subsidised cooking oil and a number had been packaged appeared ready to be exported.
“The investigation on the case would be on violating conditions stipulated in the licence and possessing stocks of cooking oil in excessive quantities under the Supply Control Act 1961.
“The licence and quota of the store operator or owners could also be suspended or might be cancelled for breaching the quota condition in packaging the subsidised cooking oil and hiding information on supply and distribution transactions of the item,” he said to reporters here Thursday. Abdul Halim said the ministry will continue to detect similar wrongdoings through a special operation called “Ops Goreng II”, which is being carried out in the whole country. BNN.
