Kota Kinabalu: An 18-year-old was charged with raping an underage girl.

Kelvin Chong Hon Lam pleaded not guilty before Sessions Court Judge Ainul Shahrin Mohamad to the charge against him on Wednesday.

Chong is accused of raping the 15-year-old girl at 11pm on March 28 this year at a University Apartment unit in Jalan Sulaman, Manggatal.

The offence under Section 376(2)(d) of the Penal Code carries a jail term of between five years and 30 years, and whipping, on conviction.

Ainul set June 12 for case management and Oct 9-10 for hearing.

Chong was released on a bail of RM10,000 in a local surety pending the date.

The court also ordered Chong to report to the Tenom police station once a month and to inform the district police chief if he wishes to leave the district.

Earlier, Deputy Public Prosecutor Hafizah Zahida Abdullah objected to bail on the grounds that it was a serious offence.

However, Chong who was not represented asked for bail to be granted to him.

He told the court that there was no proof that he had raped the girl. SOURCE BY-DE.
