KOTA KINABALU: Sabah has come of age and is now capable of undertaking full responsibility as a free and independent nation.
Datuk Dr. Jeffrey Kitingan, President of Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku said this in a press statement released in conjunction with the 55th anniversary of Malaysia Day, 16th September 1963.
After being with Malaya and Sarawak in the Federation of Malaysia for 55 years as a junior partner and neo-colony, the time has come for Sabah and Sarawak to be restored as “equal partners” with Malaya from all aspects, he said.
The time has also come to create a new Constitution of Malaysia to reflect this equal partnership and to grant full autonomy to Sabah and Sarawak in a new structure, he continued, adding that a new Agreement ought to be sealed between Malaya, Sabah and Sarawak to replace MA63 which is out of sync with the times as it was signed during the British colonial times.
“Sabah and Sarawak are no longer British colonies and are able to negotiate on its own capacity and standing under their own powers to determine their own future and destiny based on the concept of “Self-determination”.”
Malaysia need to be re-created with the original founding members, the Federation of Malaya, Singapore, Sabah and Sarawak, based on new terms and conditions in accordance with the current circumstances and taking into consideration of the aspirations of the people of the four (4) Territories, the statement read.
“The alternative is full independence for all the Territories and the creation of a “Malaysian Union” with a new Malaysian Union Agreement (MUA2020) to replace MA63” Jeffery said.
Unless MA63 is replaced with a new and realistic agreement, the Federation of Malaysia created by MA63 will fail at a very heavy cost, politically, economically and socio-economically, he said.
“This MUA2020 may be the best way forward for the NEW MALAYSIA under Tun Mahathir’s second coming as the Prime Minister”.-pr/BNN
