KOTA KINABALU: PBS is questioning the appointment of a non-Sabahan as the Chairman of UMS’ Board or Directors.
Raising the question is PBS Secretary General Datuk Johnny Mositun who pointed out that there are capable Sabahans on the current Board of Directors to fill in the Post.
Datuk Dr Mohd Sofi Osman was appointed to fill in the post following the expiry of Tun Datuk Seri Zaki Tun Azmi tenure of service.
“I can’t believe there is no Sabahan qualified to hold the post. The predecessor is no different as he is not a Sabahan too. This is a blatant disregard of the Malaysia Agreement 1963… important posts in Sabah are supposed to be held by Sabahans and what is the State government’s stand on this?”
“The Chief Minister must ensure that a Sabahan be appointed to the post, not Penang born Dr Sofi,” opined the former Deputy State Assembly Speaker.
Mositun believed that with this appointment, the Spirit of MA63 has been put to shame and ridiculed.
He also claimed that Chief Minister Datuk Seri Shafie is turning a blind eye to the situation and is not fighting for Sabahans and the state’s rights as enshrined in MA63. -By LSK/BNN
