Winter Solstice is celebrated in temperate countries to commemorate the shortest period of daylight and longest night of the year occur. It also marked the symbolic death and rebirth of the Sun. In Sabah, no such thing may occur but the event is nevertheless celebrated by some part of the community.

Priced at RM698++ per table enough for 10 pax the Winter Solstice set menu comes with eight courses dish which includes four seasons hot and cold combination, premium fish maw soup, Hainanese steamed corn-fed chicken, Thai mango whole grouper, prawns with superior soya sauce and abalone mushroom with salted egg, special vegetarian fried rice as well as “bubur cha cha” with tang yuan.
Winter Solstice festival originates from the Chinese concept of yin and yang, which represents balance and harmony in life. It’s believed that the yin qualities of darkness and cold are their most powerful on the shortest day of the year, but also at their turning point to give way to the light and warmth of yang. In the southern parts of China, this is an important celebration, second only to Chinese New Year for many families for gathering or reunion dinner. Usually the feast will include tongyuen (sticky glutinous rice balls) in the menu because its name sounds like reunion.
