KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Malaysian Trades Union Congress (MTUC) has denied the press statement made by the secretary Catherine Jikunan on 12 December 2019 regarding the support of the division for MTUC’s national leadership and its stand on the amendments to the Industrial Relations Act.

Vice Chairperson for MTUC Sabah, Margaret Chin stated that the matter was scheduled to be discussed for the first time at a MTUC Sabah division meeting called by Sabah division Chairman, Awang Ali, to be held on 17 December 2019.

This was after a few of the affiliates opposed the stand taken by the
MTUC national leadership on the amendment to the Industrial Relations Act, she said in a press statement today.

The press statement released by the secretary preempted the meeting and does not reflect the official position of MTUC Sabah.

In view that the proposed amendment will have a great impact on all the unions as well as workers in Sabah, the MTUC affiliates in Sabah has the opinion that this matter should be discussed and debated in the coming affiliates’ meeting before making any stand.

Hence, the comments made by the secretary is based on her personal capacity.-pr/BNN
