KUALA LUMPUR :The government must always heed the people’s views and aspirations, and adopt a strong political will to carry out necessary reforms to ensure a better future for the country and the people, said Tan Sri T.C Goh, president of the Federation of Chinese Associations Malaysia (Huazong).

“We also hope that the present government could honour its election promises, as soon as possible, besides formulating people and business friendly policies to boost economic growth, and take effective measures to curb religious extremism and racism of any forms which are detrimental to our country,” he said this in his 2020 Chinese New Year message issued today.

While noting that 30 years after its introduction, the Vision 2020 had failed to transform Malaysia into an advance nation as aspired, and is now replaced with the Shared Prosperity Vision 2030 (SPV2030), Goh was nonetheless convinced that patriotic and hardworking Malaysians have not given up hope on their homeland and are hopeful of a better future ahead in the New Malaysia.

“Malaysians at large continue to place their hope on the present Pakatan Harapan (PH) government to lead and bring the nation to a better future. After more than a year in power, and having gone through the learning curves and various challenges, it is hoped that the present government could bring about positive developments to the country and the people,” said Goh who is also the president of the Federation of Chinese Associations Sabah (FCAS).

He underscored that whether it is the Vision 2020 or the SPV2030, such a grand vision must always be based on the people’s unity and harmony, in order to make the nation great again.

He was also hopeful that the Year of the Rat would bring about good fortune, a new and promising beginning for the country, citing that the rat is the first in the 12-year cycle of the Chinese zodiac.

Meanwhile, Goh also announced that Huazong will be hosting its Chinese New Year open house on the 10th day of the Chinese Lunar new year, on 3 February, at Wisma Huazong.

“Everyone is welcomed to join us in the celebration. And on behalf of Huazong, I wish everyone a ‘Prosperous and Successful Year of the Rat’,” he concluded.-pr/BNN
