KOTA KINABALU: The Lido Square market has been given the approval by the Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK) to operate from 4am to 9am daily, during the Movement Control Order period, which took effect from 18 March 2020 until 31 March.
However, only a certain categories of hawkers are allowed to conduct their businesses and they are, the pork, poultry, fish, vegetables and grocery hawkers.
The other hawkers will temporary cease operations in accordance with the said Order.
Announcing this was Tan Sri T.C Goh, Chairman of Cara Kaya Sdn Bhd (CKSB), the Operator of Lido Square, in a statement issued here, on Thursday.
He also extended his utmost gratitude to the State Youth and Sports Minister cum State Assemblyman for Luyang, Phoong Jin Zhe, for his kind assistance in obtaining the said approval from the Chief Minister of Sabah and DBKK.
“This is indeed good news for the Lido residents and those who live nearby, as it spares them the risk and hassle of having to go to the KK Central Market to do marketing for their daily needs,”said Goh.
He went on note that since Lido Square is a private property and has yet to be gazetted as a public market, the management shall not be responsible for any activities which contravene the Movement Control Order. Therefore, those hawkers who wish to operate business during this period of time, shall bear the full responsibility for their business operation. Any documents or further notice from the relevant authorities after this will be made public, accordingly.
“In the meantime, we urge the public to remain calm, keep yourself and your family safe. There’s no need to flock to Lido Square to snatch up essential goods and food items. During this 14 days of restricted movement, just stay at home and enjoy quality time with family. Be simple, there’s no need for sumptuous meals. After all, this is not a festive season. What’s more important is that, we stay safe and healthy to pull through this Covid-19 crisis,” he stressed.
Besides this, he also opined that each family should just assign one person to go out for the purchasing when such need arises, adding that there’s no need to do it every day.-pr/BNN
“The best and simplest way of preventing infection is to avoid congregating in a large group. Let us all give our full support and cooperation to the Government and the relevant authorities in fighting Covid-19 by abiding to the set rules. We shall have a better tomorrow, soon!” he concluded.
