LORRY TRANSPORT SECTOR VITAL COMPONENT TO STATE ECONOMIC GROWTH

 

KOTA KINABALU: Lorry transport sector is a vital component to Sabah’s economic growth, Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board (CVLB) chairman Dato’ Chin Kim Hiung said on Thursday.

Logistics industry provides significant contributions to the State economy by creating employment, and creating income and investment influx, he added.

It is a key industry in increasing the competitive power of corporations and also an important mission in revitalizing and improvement of the competitiveness of other industries, Chin said.

The CVLB chairman said to media after receiving a courtesy call from Federation of Sabah Lorry Transportation Association office bearers led by its president Steven Chua at his office here.

According to Chin, he and members of the delegation held discussions on how both sides can work together in efforts to contribute for the betterment of the Sabah economy.

During the meeting, Chua raised issues affecting lorry transport operators in Sabah to Chin’s attention, exchanged views on matters related to the sector in the State.

Chua also thanked Chin for his concerns to issues affecting the lorry transport sector in Sabah.

Meanwhile, Chin said he would compile a report on the input collected from his meeting with the representatives to be submitted to Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Wee Ka Siong for solutions.

Present at the courtesy call included Lee Yun Sang (deputy president), committee Peng Kim Hwa (West Coast), David Chin (Tawau), Robert Chong (secretary general) and Edward Chong (treasurer).

The Federation of Sabah Lorry Transportation Association represents 29,385 lorry operators and owners across the State.-pr/BNN
