KOTA KINABALU:. Sindumin assemblyman Dr Yusof Yacob’s commentary about the state cabinet line-up should not be taken seriously as it had come from a man who contributed nothing during his 26 months as a full state minister.
The former state education and innovation minister claimed he is concerned because the new ministers do not the ‘correct’ background (barring Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor and Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Masidi Manjun).
He claimed the new ministers do not have previous experience running a state government.
How quickly has he forgotten about Warisan government which he was part of? With the exception of Warisan President, Shafie Apdal who was a Federal Minister, the rest of the previous Cabinet ministers did not have any experience as ministers at the state level including Yusof himself.
He talked about personal achievements, claiming that none of the ministers have any. One wonders whether he actually went through the list or he was looking at the list of Warisan ministers.
What would Yusof consider personal achievements? Is getting the court order to repay half a billion ringgit to a group of indigenous people for cheating them out of their land considered an achievement?
How about a RM1.5 billion corruption case that magically disappeared after Warisan stole the state government?
Yusof also claimed Warisan had been making headways in ‘renewing’ Sabah. The amount of jargons used by Warisan is fantastic but unfortunately, they are empty because these jargons were never clearly defined.
What did Yusof mean by ‘renewal’? Is it making billion ringgit announcements which never materialised or appointing Shafie’s relatives form Semporna to head strategic state departments?
Yusof should be honest and open up about what happened during his 26-month as a minister of a toothless ministry that has no funds and no clear objectives. Perhaps he could start by telling Sabahans what he achieved while he was in office. Did he do anything at all for Sabah? Did he get any allocation to ‘change’ Sabah’s education? Did he come up with a solid education transformation plan for Sabah? Please name your contribution in your capacity as the state education minister.
Or at least, admit that his ministry was a powerless, wasting money on a ministry that served nobody but Warisan and the party’s propaganda machinery.
For 26 months, the ministry was only spinning their wheels, going nowhere except carrying out the plans already laid down by the BN state government.
A word to the wise – Warisan was given 26 months to prove themselves. They failed miserably. Is it so hard to ask for the same opportunity for this new PN government? During the 26 months Warisan was in power, they spent majority of their time playing politics and rewarding their supporters with positions and contracts. They did not even have any development agenda. As a result, Sabah’s economy GDP growth fell to all-time low.
Yusof should just lay low and reflect on his party and his own non-contribution. People who live in glass houses should not throw stones.-
