KOTA KINABALU: Sandakan Municipal Council has been instructed by the State Local Government and Housing Ministry to call for open tender for its garbage collection contractor to resolve the issue without further delay.
Sabah MCA treasurer Dato’ Chin Kim Hiung said Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Masidi Manjun updated him on the development when he raised the matter during a courtesy call on Masidi at his office here yesterday.
Garbage collection in Sandakan was seriously disrupted due to incompetent decisions made by the previous Warisan-led state government, Chin said.
“Garbage collection has been a public interest during the past months because it concerns cleanliness of the surroundings and public health,” he added.
“Minister Masidi assures Sandakan people the issue will be resolved soon with the appointment of the garbage collection contractor through open tender,” Chin said.
Chin thanked the new Sabah State Government for taking prompt measures to address the concerns of Sandakan people after nearly two months coming into power.
Chin who is also MCA Libaran division chairman, commended Minister Masidi for his efficiency in dealing with the garbage collection issue.
“We hope Sandakan Municipal Council will expedite process to appoint the garbage collection contractor in the interest and convenience of Sandakan people,” Chin said.-pr/BNN
