KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) is happy with the intervention of the Perikatan Nasional (PN) state government to resolve the outstanding problem of the Kota Kinabalu skybridge project.
Gee Tien Siong, who is SAPP vice president, said the air-conditioned skybridge project which started construction on April 1, 2017 was stopped when its developer was declared with bankruptcy a year later on April 18, 2018.
The unfinished skybridge project was left hanging for two years since of which the previous government failed to lift a single finger to help settle the problem, Gee added.
Gee revealed that after the state election, he accompanied his party president Datuk Seri Yong Teck Lee during a visit the Kota Kinabalu City Hall to get a better picture on the ‘abandoned’ project. After a better understanding the source of the problem, a solution was drafted and submitted to Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor for his decision. An allocation of RM4.7 million was announced by the Chief Minister on 4 February this year.
He said once the pedestrian bridge is completed which is expected to be ready by the middle of this year, could bring certain economic benefits especially from tourism. The economic effects will be felt more after stabilization of the pandemic when tourism is opened.
Gee praised the chief minister as a visionary political leader. He also thanked KK city mayor Noorliza Awang Alip and the various departmental heads for their co-operation to resolve this issue and which will be freed from political propaganda by the opposition.-pr/BNN
