KUALA LUMPUR: The Federation of Chinese Associations Malaysia (Huazong) has hoped that Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein’s official visit to China would further strengthen bilateral relations and cooperation between Malaysia and China in various key sectors.
Its President Tan Sri T.C Goh also believed the said visit would pave way for the prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s recently announced planned visit to China.
He also described the said visit as timely and crucial, especially towards further boosting bilateral relations between the two countries, and cooperation in fighting Covid-19 pandemic and bilateral trade.
Goh who is also a director of Malaysia China Business Council (MCBC) cum Chairman of its Bilateral Policy Committee said this in a statement issued today, while commenting on Hishammuddin’s two-day official visit to China starting today, at the invitation of his Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi. Wang Yi, who is also State Councillor, made an official visit to Malaysia in October 2020.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Hishammuddin, who will be undertaking his first official visit to the republic since assuming office as a minister on March 10, 2020, will be co-chairing a bilateral meeting between the Malaysian and China delegations with Wang Yi during the visit.
Goh was also hopeful that the meeting between the two foreign ministers would bring about positive developments and consensus in various key sectors, including bilateral trade, cross-border tourism, Covid-19 prevention, and significant global and regional issues, among others.
He also believed Hishammuddin’s visit would better pave way and expedite the prime minister’s planned visit to China.
It was recently reported that the prime minister has indicated that he planned to conduct official visits to Asian countries including China, after his visit to Saudi Arabia. He also plans to meet up with senior Chinese leaders including President Xi Jinping, to discuss bilateral cooperation between Malaysia and China.
Meanwhile, Goh also expressed his full support for Senior Minister and Minister of International Trade and Industry Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali for leading a trade and investment mission to South Korea and Japan from April 1-6, 2021; and Deputy Foreign Minister Datuk Kamarudin Jaffar for undertaking official visits to Turkey, Qatar and Iran beginning Wednesday until April 6.
He was hopeful that the said official visits conducted by the three senior Malaysian ministers would help boost bilateral relations and cooperation between Malaysia and the said countries, and help expedite economic recovery of Malaysia, post pandemic.-pr/BNN
