KOTA KINABALU: The Sawit Kinabalu Group will distribute food baskets worth RM1 million to communities in 15 districts where it operates in the state.

The food baskets, in the process of being distributed will be channelled through the District Offices and the district Disaster Operations Control Centre (PKOB) in Papar, Beaufort, Membakut, Kota Kinabalu, Kota Marudu, Pitas, Beluran, Tongod, Kinabatangan, Lahad Datu, Tungku, Kunak, Semporna, Tawau dan Kalabakan.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Haji Noor, who is also Sawit Kinabalu Group Chairman witnessed the symbolic cheque presentation from Sawit Kinabalu Group Managing Director Encik Bacho Jansie to State Secretary and Chairman of the State COVID-19 Disaster Management Committee, Datuk Seri Panglima Hj Safar Bin Untong.

Meanwhile, Hajiji disclosed that the State government has distributed 40,736 food baskets under the Bantuan Sabah Prihatin (BSP) 3.0 beginning 19 June, 2021. Prior to this, a total of 322,122 food baskets have been distributed under BSP1.0 and 367,231 under BSP2.0.

Hajiji hopes Sawit’s contribution will assist those whose lives have been impacted by the pandemic. He reiterated that everyone must be united in fighting the COVID-19 spread and most importantly get vaccinated as soon as possible.

“In addition to Community Development Leaders (PPM), I urge all people’s representatives (wakil rakyat) to be hands-on and continue with efforts in their respective constituencies to speed up the vaccine registration process so that we can achieve the National Covid Immunisation Programme (PICK) target.” he said.

Likewise, I urge non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to volunteer their time and effort to help in this process, he added.

“We need to step up manual registrations in places where internet connectivity is lacking and this is where help is most needed to complement the mobile outreach programmes,” he said.

The Chief Minister is heartened to know that the number of people getting vaccinated has increased steadily to 333,983 from 326,556 two days ago including for army personnel who have received the first dose under the first and second phase.

We hope to see our target of 30,000 people vaccinated daily from July, 2021 onwards surpassing the current daily record of 13,000 people, he said.

Earlier, Encik Bacho said Sawit Kinabalu Group’s contribution will benefit 10,000 households in the respective districts and he assured that Sawit will continue with its corporate social responsibility (CSR) to help the needy especially those impacted by this pandemic.-pr/BNN
