KOTA KINABALU: Sabah efforts to intensify the Covid-19 vaccination programme is expected to pick up steam this coming weeks as more new stocks are arriving.

Chinese Relation Officer for Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Dr Joachim Gunsalam, Goon Thien Shang said he was informed that early next month, there will be about 600,000 vaccine doses to be delivered to Sabah.

“As such, I hope the people will be patient to wait for their turn to get vaccinated as I have received a lot of complaints that many people who have had their schedule appointments being deferred to another date,” said Goon.

Goon was referring to the opposition who highlighted in the media that there was shortage of vaccine doses at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) to implement the  National Immunisation Covid-19 Programme.

“I was told that the new delivery of stocks will be distributed throughout Sabah including Kota Kinabalu, Sandakan and Keningau,” he said.

He hoped the people will always adhere to the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) when they come to the vaccination centres and come according to the allotted  time to avoid overcrowding which has the high risk of spreading the Coronavirus.

“Although we have completed the vaccinations, we must still continue to adhere to the SOPs without fail,” he urged.

Earlier, Goon visited the Kota Kinabalu City Hall walk-in vaccination programme at the downtown Padang Merdeka here.

The three days programme started yesterday received encouraging response from the residents in and around Kota Kinabalu.

The programme start from 8.30am to 4.30pm based on first come first serve basis.

“I was informed that there were about 500 vaccine doses being allocated today (Monday) and it was all finished before noon which clearly shows the people awareness on the importance of getting inoculated, he said.

The walk-in vaccination was a mobile outreach programme involving KKCH; Health Ministry; Institute of Population and Family Development; and  Api-Api Community Development Unit.-pr/BNN
