KOTA KINABALU: The Chinese Consul General in Kota Kinabalu, Huang Shifang has accepted the invitation of The Federation of Chinese Associations Sabah (FCAS) to attend the “Sabah Cuisines Tasting Fair”, which will be held here, in conjunction with the 7th Sabah International Dragon Boat Race.
She would also be officiating at the prize presentation ceremony, in her capacity as the guest-of-honour.
According to FCAS vice president cum women chief Sherley Wong, the food tasting fair which is being organised by the women wing of FCAS is a popular feature of the annual cultural sports event, which often attracts many local food aficionados and tourists. The organiser has also invited a group of qualified judges to conduct professional judging for the cooking competition. Among the judges are, FCAS vice president Kapitan Lim Vun Chan, advisors of FCAS women wing, Datuk Nancy Ho and Datin Foo Choon Pang, Chairman of Sabah and Labuan F.T Foo Clan Association, Kapitan Foo Hoe Weng, and President of Sabah Confectionery and Bakery Association, Peter Khoo Phoo Min.
She also thanked all the sponsors for their generous sponsorships in making it possible for her committee to host the programme.
She expressed this while leading her committee in paying a courtesy call to Datuk Susan Wong, the organising chairman for the 7th Sabah International Dragon Boat Race, at the latter’s office (WSG Properties) here on Thursday, to brief her on the preparations for the rice dumpling cooking competition cum food-tasting fair. Also in attendance were FCAS vice women chiefs Haw Yong Sai, Jennifer Wong, Shirley Ong and Sakura Tay, its treasurer Jacqueline Ting and its general affairs officer, Doris Chiang among others.
During the courtesy call, Susan commended the FCAS women wing for their hard work and dedication in organising the said programme. She also confirmed that Wang had during the recent courtesy call on her by the FCAS delegation led by its President Tan Sri T.C Goh, accepted the invitation to attend the “Sabah Cuisines Tasting Fair”, and to officiate at the prize presentation ceremony.
She also gave her views and inputs on how best to preserve the tradition of rice dumpling making and wrapping, so that it can be passed on to the young generation of Sabah Chinese community.
The Sabah Cuisines Tasting Fair will be held at the Likas Bay here, on July 3 (Sunday), from 8.30 am to 1pm.
Besides the rice dumpling tasting, the Fair will also feature two competitions i.e. booths decoration and dumpling wrapping, and all the member associations of FCAS are encouraged to actively participate in the competitions, so as to continue to preserve this unique Chinese cultural and culinary tradition.
