KOTA KINABALU: A Harvest Festival will be held at Kampung Bambangan Inanam on July 10, starting from 10am onwards.
The festival, through its programmes will include activities and contests encompassing people of all ages, such as the children fashion contest, a Mrs. Harvest Festival contest and the much beloved Harvest Festival Beauty contest, as well as a singing competition.
There will also be a traditional food competition, where the food will be consumed after the judging period.
The Village Headman, Linus Sigual when talking to reporters shared that the festival is an integral part of the Kadazandusun society, with all the values imbued in the festival’s origin and background.
He said the festival hoped to promote their culture and traditions through interactions and information shared with villagers of all ages, especially the older and more informed generation.
“We also want to promote solidarity and friendship among the people of this village through this festival. Although the State-level Harvest Festival celebration falls in May, we are sure that celebrations of our ‘harvest’ be it in Paddy or our income is not confined to the month,” he shared, adding that the festival is a form of thanksgiving for whatever is achieved.
He acknowledged that Kg Bambangan Inanam is once populated by paddy planters and sustenance farmers in the past.
Meanwhile the event chair person, Laura Dosui shared that promoting their traditions through the Harvest Festival is apt and proper as they will be showcasing traditional dresses through the contests.
She said the festival that starts at 10am hopes to generate interest among the younger generation to participate in the event, and understand the legacy bestowed through the ages.
“I wish to thank the committee members that are working hard to ensure that the event goes smoothly, as well as those who have contributed generously to ensure its success. We hope that they will come and enjoy the day with the celebrants.”-BNN
