KOTA KINABALU: The Federation of Chinese Associations Sabah (FCAS) has urged politicians to be more cautious and thoughtful when making speeches during election campaigns.
Its President, Tan Sri T.C Goh said this is important, so as not to hurt the feelings of any particular community.
“We do realize that the ongoing campaigns for the 15th general elections are very intense, with many political ceramahs being held. The people too are listening to the speeches delivered by the politicians. Hence, these politicians should be very cautious with their remarks, so as not to hurt any particular community, the Chinese community included,” he said.
Goh who is also President of The Federation of Chinese Associations Malaysia (Huazong) was responding to a question from the media over Warisan President, Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal’s insensitive remark during his ceramah in Putatan on Monday where, he said “satu ekor Cina pun tiada jadi menteri.”.
Goh said, the Chinese community finds such remark inappropriate and insulting, as the term of ‘satu ekor’, is a term that is commonly used on an animal.
However, he was glad that Shafie was quick to admit his mistake, besides apologizing to the Chinese community.
Goh also called on political parties and politicians in the country to always be moderate, rational, respectful and mindful of the feelings of various communities in a multiracial Malaysia.-pr/BNN
