KOTA KINABALU, The Federation of Chinese Associations Sabah (FCAS) has welcomed the formation of the Borneo Bloc, between the state governments of Sabah and Sarawak.
Its President Tan Sri T.C Goh also hoped such a move could help to expedite restoration of the special position and rights of the two Bornean states, as stipulated in the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), when the Federation of Malaysia was formed back in 1963.
He underscored that the people of Sabah and Sarawak should get to enjoy all the special rights and privileges that come with greater political autonomy.
Goh who is also a member of the Sabah Economic Advisory Council (SEAC) said this in a statement issued today, in response to the statement issued by Chief Minister of Sabah cum chairman of the ruling Gabungan Parti Sabah (GPS), Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Mohd Noor, early this morning, in which he announced that both he and his Sarawak counterpart Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg have agreed to form a Borneo bloc that will support a federal government beneficial to the two states.
Goh who is also President of The Federation of Sabah and Labuan Hokkien Associations (FSLHA) also supported Hajiji’s statement that the main criteria for Sabah to decide on who to work with to form the new federal government depends on which political coalition could give Sabah the best offer, besides bringing political stability to Sabah and the country.
“Before this, I have mentioned that the two Borneo states, Sabah included, will be the ‘King makers’ in the 15th general election. And now, the election results have clearly indicated that whichever political blocs could win over Sabah and Sarawak would get to govern the country!”
Goh who is also President of The Federation of Chinese Associations Malaysia (Huazong) also disclosed that, both he and his spouse, Paun Sri Joanne Ho successfully performed their duties as Malaysian yesterday, where they cast their votes at the polling centre at SMJK Sacred Heart here.
He also hoped that a new government would be established soon, and to immediately start work to stimulate the national economy, and to better fight inflation.-pr/BNN
