KOTA KINABALU: Kudat MP Datuk Verdon Bahanda had a discussion with the Federal Minister of Entrepreneurship and Cooperative Development Datuk Ewon Benedick on the proposal to open a Bank Rakyat branch in Pitas town recently.
The proposal was among the matters discussed with the two MPs.
According to Verdon, it is important to open a new bank branch because there are no bank services in Pitas up to this day.
The Pitas people have to go to the nearest town which is Kota Marudu to get bank services.
Ewon stated his willingness to consider the proposal by taking into account the availability and suitable buildings for Bank Rakyat.
Bank Rakyat is one of 10 agencies under the Malaysian Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives.
Verdon also mentioned the need to upgrade the ‘tamu’ area for hawkers and small traders in the towns of Kanibongan, Pitas, Kudat and Banggi as well as the development of entrepreneurship and cooperatives in the Kudat parliament.
These requirements were raised by Verdon during his meeting with Ewon in Kota Kinabalu late afternoon yesterday.
During the visit, Ewon reiterated his commitment that the ministry and its agencies will give additional focus to the development of entrepreneurs, cooperatives, hawkers and small traders especially in rural areas throughout the country, especially in Sabah and Sarawak.-pr/BNN
