KOTA KINABALU: The Federation of Chinese Associations Sabah (FCAS) hopes positive attributes of the Rabbit would bring unity, harmony, moderation and progress for Sabah and Malaysia as a whole.
Speaking during 2023 Year of the Rabbit Lunar New Year’s Gathering, its President Tan Sri T.C Goh said the present State government was democratically and legitimately elected by the people of Sabah via the State elections held in 2020, and subsequently reached an agreement to fully support the ‘Unity Government’ led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, after the 15th general elections held last year.
He said , it was only appropriate that the concept and spirit of the “Unity Government” were fully adopted by Sabah, in order to promote unity among the people, in the true sense, throughout the country.
According to him, this was expressed through the the recent State Cabinet reshuffle consented by Tun Datuk Seri Panglima Dr Juhar Mahiruddin, which resulted in the appointment of two Chinese ministers, especially in view of the fact that, there were no Chinese ministers in the previous State Cabinet line-up.
“Congratulations to Datuk Christina Liew, for being reappointed as the Sabah Tourism vast experience in, Culture and Environment Minister, for the second time; and I also would like to congratulate Luyang State Assemblyman, YB Ginger Phoong for being appointed as Minister of Industrial Development Sabah,” he said.
He believed that with their serious commitment, they would be able to serve the people of Sabah, and the Chinese community, well.
“This included raising the various issues affecting the Chinese community via the appropriate government channels, and to resolve them promptly and effectively,” he stressed.
“With the Covid-19 pandemic significantly under control, and most of the nations, Malaysia and China included, had reopened the borders which thus accelerated recovery of the global economy, I earnestly hope that with greater political stability, Sabah too could achieve a speedy recovery and growth in various sectors,” he said, after mentioning the presence of the Chinese Consul-general, Huang Shifang, who extended her greetings to the people of Sabah.
“This demonstrates the solid and close friendship between Sabah and China which we fully acknowledged and grateful for,” he stressed.
He also extended in greetings and gratitude to those present mainly Guest-of-Honour Head of State, His Excellency Tun Datuk Seri Panglima Dr Juhar Bin Haji Mahiruddin, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Mohd Noor, Her Excellency Huang Shifang, the Chinese Consul-General in Kota Kinabalu, their respected guests, leaders and friends, for taking time out to attend the auspicious and meaningful event of celebrating the Chinese New Year together.-BNN
