KUALA LUMPUR: The Federation of Chinese Associations Malaysia (Huazong) was convinced that, the series of memorandums of understanding (MOUs) signed between Chinese and Malaysian businesses, during the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s maiden official visit to China, in April this year, would allow bilateral trade between Malaysia and China to hit new record high, this year.
Its President Tan Sri T.C Goh acknowledged that the record RM170bil in investment deals inked under 19 memorandums of understanding (MOUs) between Chinese and Malaysian businesses, during the historical visit to China were a new milestone in the 49-years of diplomatic relations between the two nations.
He added that the recent official visit of China’s 14th National People’s Congress (NPC) Standing Committee chairman Zhao Leji to Malaysia, between 18 to 20 May and his meeting with Malaysian Prime Minister and senior government leaders, as well as the luncheon meet with Huazong leaders too has further enhance the rapport between the government and people of the two nations.
Goh, who is also Chairman of Bilateral Policies Committee of Malaysia-China Business Council expressed this in a statement issued today, in conjunction with the 49th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Malaysia.
He acknowledged that Malaysia was the earliest ASEAN country to establish diplomatic ties with China on 31 May, 1974. The bilateral trade and economic relations between the two nations had grown ever closer and stronger, ever since.
He noted that China has been the largest trading partner of Malaysia for 14 consecutive years, and last year, Malaysia-China bilateral trade hit a record US$203.6 billion (US$1=RM4. 42). Citing the ongoing dynamic economic cooperation between the two nations, he was convinced that such a figure would reach a new record high, this year.
He further noted that this year also marks the 10th anniversary of the establishment of their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP) between Malaysia and China, as well as economic cooperation under the transformative ‘Belt-and-Road’ initiative spearheaded by China.
Goh who is also President of The Federation of Chinese Associations Sabah (FCAS) thus hoped the Malaysian government could step up efforts to attract more China investors to invest in Malaysia, so as to stimulate and accelerate our economic recovery, post Covid-19 pandemic, as well as to further boost bilateral relations between the two countries.
He also assured that Huazong would continue to play its role to promote closer bilateral ties and cooperation between the governments and the people of the two countries.
