KOTA KINABALU: Lions Clubs International (LC) District 308-A2 is initiating a fundraising bazaar to support five community projects in the rural areas of Sabah.
Organising Chairperson Lim Wuang Ching said they aim to raise RM150,000 through a fun-filled event on Oct 29, from 8 am to 6 pm, at Airport in Shanghai 1950, Kolombong.
The event will feature 31 booths, including four food trucks offering a variety of handmade crafts and mouthwatering food and beverages, she said.
Also available are vision checks, reflexology from the Sabah Society for the Blind, blood donation, and diabetes screening, among other services.
The five projects include rural area children’s education in Beaufort, Papar, and Kota Belud; a gravity project in Kota Belud; underwater coral planting in Manukan Island in collaboration with Sabah Parks.
Both the diabetes and corneal transport projects will be carried out in rural areas; the locations will be confirmed later, she said.
“We encourage people, including youngsters, to participate in Lions Club activities to contribute to underprivileged communities,” said Lim.
By participating in the bazaar, she said attendees will contribute to and provide a brighter future for those in need.
The fundraising bazaar draws its inspiration from a past fundraising event through ticket sales of a motivational talk held in Oct 2022.
The previous event successfully carried out nine projects, with a few projects aided by matching grants from the Lions District Grant, she said.
She also expressed appreciation for the support of Project Advisors Dato Lawrence Ting and Past President Alyssa Lim, along with 16 Lions Clubs, JCI Tanjung Aru and BNI.
The co-organisers include participating clubs from Lions Club of Asia City, KK Capital, KK Central, KK City, KK Damai, KK Downtown, KK Lintas, KK Star City New Century, Papar Host, LC Ranau, Keningau Downtown, KK Vintage, Labuan Mandarin, KK Mandarin, KK Sutera and LC Tanjung Aru.
They are also joined by JCI Tanjung Aru, BNI Jesselton, BNI Supreme, Sabah Fruits Association, and the Next Wrap.-pr/BNN
