KOTA KINABALU: It is imperative for all the parties in Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) to strengthen the coalition, from both within and without, in preparation of the upcoming State elections, said SAPP.
In a press statement issued on Monday, SAPP’s Deputy President Datuk Edward Dagul, who is also a GRS Supreme Council member, stated that in order to further solidify GRS, it is incumbent on all the parties within GRS to strengthen the coalition from both within and without.
“It is the collective responsibility and duty of all the parties to ensure the GRS coalition is at its optimal strength and fully prepared for the coming State elections,” said Edward.
As one of the founding members of GRS, SAPP stands firm and committed to the GRS political struggles and aspirations, especially on issues protecting Sabah rights and that of Sabahans.
Meanwhile, as far as “pinching members” are concerned, SAPP is of the view that this should not happen. This causes distrust and disunity among GRS, added Edward in commenting on the issue raised by Parti Bersatu Sabah Vice President, Datuk Ruslan Muharam last Saturday.
It was previously reported that Datuk Ruslan lamented the actions of a few parties in Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) “pinching” members of fellow components which may cause division in GRS.
“Sometimes, it is quite hard to know whether they are members of other political parties. The respective parties should seek verification on the status of applicants before approving their membership applications, in order to avoid the problem of multiple party membership.
“From past observations and experiences, for a number of years now, SAPP has placed a membership application process mechanism whereby an applicant needs to undergo a compulsory cooling off period of 3 months followed by a mandatory Membership Induction Course, before being accepted as a member of the Party.
“This ‘extra’ prerequisite of membership gives ample considerations to be weighed by both the applicant and the Party,” explained Edward. -pr/BNN
