KOTA KINABALU: Parti Gerakan Sabah, adhering to the principles of “Sabah First”and “Sabah Unity “ has maintained a friendly relationship with the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) government under the leadership of Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.
Leveraging the advantage of being a national party, Parti Gerakan Sabah is deemed more capable than many local parties in assisting Sabah in managing relations and negotiations at the federal level.
The Chairman of Parti Gerakan Sabah and nationally elected Vice President, Datuk Alexander Lo, expressed these views in an interview today.
“Although Parti Gerakan Sabah is an opposition party at the federal level, our support for the GRS government in Sabah is not in conflict. Instead, with our national party background, we are better positioned to bring Sabah’s issues to the federal level and establish good relations with the federation. This is an advantage!”
Alexander emphasized that the political situation in Sabah is different, and the community has accepted a new political norm. He stressed that regardless of being a black cat or a white cat, the political struggle of Parti Gerakan Sabah always prioritizes the interests of the people of Sabah.
“Contrary to other local parties in Peninsular Malaysia, including Pakatan Harapan MPs from parties like DAP and PKR, who, before coming into power, used the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) as an issue to garner votes, after successfully winning elections and ruling, these individuals, now ministers and senior officials, withdrew legal suits against the federal government. This is a blatant betrayal of the people of Sabah, a deception!”
He stated that now the public can see how MPs from Sabah in Parliament, previously from opposition parties like Warisan and Umno, after becoming part of the government, simply agree with decisions without any dispute, pleading for this and that.
Alexander urged these MPs, as they are now in the government, whether at the federal or state level in Sabah, to help advocate for Sabah’s rights.
“If they don’t know how to do it, they might as well go back to being the opposition! Perhaps that suits them better!”-pr/BNN
