KOTA KINABALU: Indonesians residing and working in Sabah are being urged to exercise their voting rights in the upcoming Indonesian General Elections, which will be held from February 4th to 10th, 2024.
The main voting centres for Indonesian voters in Sabah are the Indonesian Consulate in Kota Kinabalu and the Sekolah Indonesia Kota Kinabalu Sepanggar.
Marwan Wardhana Consul for Immigration Affairs with the Indonesian Consulate in Kota Kinabalu said, “Additionally, there will be 448 spot mobile voting centres catering to the majority of the 98,669 eligible voters in Sabah, including those outside of Kota Kinabalu, Penampang, Putatan, and Sepanggar.
The Indonesian General Elections to be held on February 14, will feature three presidential candidates: Prabowo Subianto, a military man turned politician; Ganjar Pranowo, a former governor of one of the country’s most populous provinces; and Anies Baswedan, the former governor of Jakarta. In addition to the presidential candidates, there will be several candidates from 24 parties vying for parliamentary seats.
“Indonesian voters in Sabah are advised to cast their votes peacefully for the candidates of their choice. They are encouraged to vote for the candidates they believe are the best fit for the positions,” Marwan said.
The Indonesian Consulate in Kota Kinabalu will be working closely with the Malaysian Police and members of the Indonesia Liaison Officer (ILO) to ensure the security of the voting process.
“We don’t expect to encounter any difficulties but we are always alert for any situation. We also advise voters to keep their safety in mind when they are travelling,” he said adding that voters who lived away from Kota Kinabalu are encouraged to cast their votes with the mobile centre, instead of travelling to Kota Kinabalu.
In Indonesia, the general elections are scheduled to be held on February 14, 2024. These elections will determine the President, Vice President, People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR), and members of local legislative bodies. The elected President and Vice President will be sworn in on October 20, 2024, while the newly elected members of the MPR will be sworn in on October 1, 2024.-BNN
