KOTA KINABALU: Members of the public are urged to actively participate in the grand opening of the ‘Chinese New Year Carnival’ and the ‘Lido Chinese New Year Night Market’, which are being jointly organised by The Federation of Chinese Associations Sabah (FCAS) and Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK), tomorrow 3 February.
Urging this, FCAS President Tan Sri T.C Goh said the said two public events which are being hosted to usher in the Chinese lunar new year celebration, which commences on this coming 10 February (Saturday), aimed to demonstrate the preservation of enduring Chinese tradition and culture, besides promoting harmony and unity among Malaysians of all races.
In addition, it also aimed to promote Sabah tourism to boost the state economy.
He highlighted that besides stalls peddling a wide range of Chinese New Year goodies, handicrafts, decorative items, delicacies, there will also be a host of interesting stage performances by students of various Chinese primary schools including SJK (C). Yick Nam Inanam, SJK (C.) St James Kota Kinabalu, SJK (C.) Chung Hwa, Kota Kinabalu, SJK (C.) Lok Yuk, Likas, SJK (C.) Chung Hwa, Kota Belud, SJK (C.) Chung Hwa, Likas, SJK (C.) Anglo Chinese, Kota Kinabalu, SJK (C.) Shan Tao Kota Kinabalu, SJK (C.) Chung Hwa Tamparuli, SJK (C.) Hwa Shiong Putatan, Kian Kok Middle School, Sabah Tsun Tshin Secondary School, among others.
On behalf of the joint Organising Committee, he also thanked the various local dragon and lion dance troupes for their participation in the Chinese New Year Carnival, which is being held at the Lintasan Deasoka, at Gaya Street here.
Goh who is also President of The Federation of Chinese Associations Malaysia (Huazong) reiterated that the organising of the annual Chinese New Year Carnival was aimed to boost festive atmosphere in the state, Kota Kinabalu City especially, during the Chinese New Year festive season.
He emphasised that preservation of the Chinese New Year atmosphere is an important aspect of safeguarding, preserving, developing and promoting the excellent and enduring Chinese culture, which is also part of FCAS’s important missions.
He also thanked the various co sponsors including STC, PARKLANE CITY BENONI,KK COOL,BAYSUITES,and PORT VIEW, for their generous support and contributions in making the said event possible.
The details for the two Chinese New Year events are as follows:
1). Opening Ceremony for ‘2024 Year of the Dragon Chinese New Year Carnival’
Date: February 3, 2024 (Saturday).
Time: 5:00 PM to 10:30 PM.
Venue: Dataran Deasoka, Gaya Street, Kota Kinabalu.
Co-organizers: The Federation of Chinese Associations Sabah (FCAS) and Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK)
Guest of Honor: Sabah Chief Minister Dato’ Seri Hajiji Mohd Noor.

Lion dance and Chinese drums performance by students of Tshun Tsin Secondary School, to welcome the guests; songs and dance performances by local talents including students of SJK (C.) Yick Nam Inanam, DBKK Choir, dragon, unicorn and lion dance performances, fireworks display, etc.
2). Lido Chinese New Year Night Market
Date: February 4 to 8, 2024 (Sunday to Thursday).
Time: 5:00 PM to 11:00 PM (February 4 to 7); 5:00 PM to 2:00 AM (February 8).
Venue: Lido Square, Kota Kinabalu.
