He highlighted that this year’s event is also part of the series of celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and China. The unique “Dragon Boat Sunset Run” is scheduled to take place at the beautiful Likas Bay here, on June 8th (Saturday) at 4 PM.
Chang, who is also the Organising Chairman of the Dragon Boat Fun Run, said that the purpose of organizing the run is not only to support the “FCAS International Dragon Boat Race” which is being organized by the FCAS led by Tan Sri T.C Goh, but also to promote a healthy and active lifestyle, uphold the sportsmanship and fighting spirit of its youth division, and to demonstrate vigorous development of culture, sports, and tourism in Sabah and Kota Kinabalu in the new era.
He went on to note that the FCAS and members of the organizing committee, led by Goh, recently paid a courtesy call to Huang Shifang, the Chinese Consul General in Kota Kinabalu, and received strong support from her, where she gladly accepted the invitation to jointly officiate the flag-off ceremony of the “3rd FCAS Youth 7km Dragon Boat Sunset Run”, alongside the Sabah Youth and Sports Minister, Datuk Ellron Angin.
“We are grateful for their support. This event not only commemorates the 50th anniversary of Malaysia-China diplomatic relations but also aims to preserve and promote Chinese traditional culture, with special emphasis on the active participation of the youth, which is of profound significance,” said Chang.
