KUALA LUMPUR: Tan Sri T.C. Goh, President of the Federation of Chinese Associations Malaysia (Huazong) has hoped that the noble “Malaysian Olympic Spirit,” which sees the entire nation united in cheering for our athletes, will continue to exist alongside the “National Day Spirit,” deeply resonating with the people and the country.
He said that the “Malaysian Olympic Spirit” also encompasses the patriotism, determination, and full effort displayed by our athletes and teams during the recently concluded global sporting event, striving to bring glory to the nation.
He added that, just as our ancestors from various ethnicities successfully fought for the country’s independence and worked together to build the nation, our national athletes have established a model of nation-building based on friendship, harmony, inclusiveness, and sincere unity for this beautiful country and its hard working people.
“Whether it is the Olympics or National Day, we are united in heart and steps, waving the ‘Jalur Gemilang’ together!,” he said.
In his message issued in conjunction with the 67th National Day released today, Goh said that the “Malaysian Olympic Spirit” shown by our patriotic and courageous athletes in the Olympics, along with the collective cheers of the Malaysian people, is one of the best morale-boosting gifts for this year’s National Day celebration.
He noted that this year’s National Day theme, “Malaysia MADANI: Spirit of Independence” reflects the Federal Unity Government’s determination and strength, nearly two years in power, in leading the nation forward through accelerated reforms, and fully advancing, post pandemic.
Goh, who is also the President of the Federation of Chinese Associations Sabah (FCAS ) acknowledged that in addition to the Olympic spirit, this year’s National Day, which coincides with the celebration of Sabah Day, adds greater historical and nation-building significance.
He noted that following the Sabah State Government’s gazettement of August 31 as Sabah Day in June this year, this marks the first time it will be celebrated officially alongside National Day, elevating the legal status and recognition of Sabah Day—a move that deserves acknowledgment and support.
He expressed his excitement that, starting this year, the official celebrations of National Day and Sabah Day will be held simultaneously on August 31. He believes that this will inspire the people to pay greater attention to these two significant celebrations and their historical importance.-pr/BNN
