SANDAKAN: Sabah MCA treasurer Dato’ Chin Kim Hiung reminded former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad that democracy is pretty much alive in the State.

“Yes, Sabahans had chosen a government in the 2018 general elections which is Barisan Nasional but Warisan wrested power after six assemblymen from UPKO switched allegiance,” Chin said in response to Mahathir’s video explaining his absence from the Warisan Plus election campaign trail.

Chin said Barisan Nasional won 29 seats and together with STAR which had two seats formed a coalition government until the betrayal by UPKO that enabled Warisan with allies DAP and Keadilan to come in from the backdoor.

If the Sabah state election is “undemocratic”, then Mahathir should tell that to Warisan president Datuk Seri Panglima Shafie Apdal because it was him who stole the mandate from a democratically elected government back in 2018.

“Mahathir should not mislead Sabahans by distorting facts of what actually transpired, if he thinks he can fool them then he is wrong because Sabahans are mature enough and how he “mistreated” Sabah during the two tenures as prime minister is still fresh in their mind,” Chin said.
Chin who is also MCA Libaran division chairman, had on Tuesday asked Warisan Plus leaders why Mahathir did not come to Sabah to campaign for them.

“How can Warisan Plus being so ungrateful to Mahathir who supported the Warisan president as their choice for Prime Minister , to the extent of not inviting him to Sabah to help in their campaigning ?” Chin quipped.

Or perhaps Warisan Plus see Mahathir’s presence as a setback because Sabahans don’t like him, Chin said.-pr/BNN
