KOTA KINABALU: Acting upon a netizen’s complaint in social media about the slow service at the KK JPJ drive-through counter yesterday, Yong and Gee took the initiative to visit the Road Transport Department (JPJ) at Bundusan branch to have a firsthand look at the counter service.

Yong Yit Jee is a member of Supreme Council SAPP cum lawyer, while Gee Tien Siong, is vice president of SAPP cum Community Development Leader (PPM) Luyang.

During their enquiry, it was learned from the JPJ officer that JPJ is currently giving priority to members of public whose road taxes expired in January, February and March. There is no need to worry for car owners whose road tax and driver license expired before April because the Minister of Transport, Wee Ka Siong, has assured and confirmed that the grace period of 60 days was given.

Vehicle owners whose road taxes and driver licenses expired in April onwards do not need to go to the JPJ to renew the road tax for the time being. In addition, the indoor counter services for renewal of road taxes and driver’s license resumed today on 1st April 2021. This helps to cushion the traffic congestion caused by the flood of people at the drive-through counters.

JPJ officer also revealed that JPJ has 3 drive-through counters, but only the 1st and 2nd counters are operational. The 3rd counter is temporarily used as office for the drive-through counters unit. If members of public choose to use the drive-through service, the payment cards must be prepared in advance because the drive-through counters only accept credit and debit cards for payments. Each member of public is only allowed to have two (2) transactions so that JPJ can serve as many members of public as possible.

Gee Tien Siong hopes that the post office will resume their services for renewal of road tax and driver licence as soon as possible, so that it will be convenient for the people to handle the affairs through multiple channels, thus reducing the crowd at JPJ and saving people’s valuable time at the same time.-pr/BNN
