KOTA KINABALU: The “2022/7th FCAS International Dragon Boat Race” has received overwhelming response, with close to 100 teams from Sabah, Sarawak and Peninsular Malaysia, and neighbouring countries have signed up for the race, thus far.
Besides this, President of The Federation of Chinese Associations Sabah (FCAS), Tan Sri T.C Goh was also glad to note that, Sabah police commissioner Datuk Idris Abdullah has assured that the state police would give its full support and cooperation to the organizer of the race, to ensure that it is successfully and smoothly conducted.
Idris gave such assurance during the courtesy call by FCAS and the organising committee of the race led by Goh, who is also chairman of the race, at the Sabah Police Headquarters in Kepayan, here, on Friday. Also in attendance were, FCAS vice presidents Datuk Chua Soon Ping, Kapitan Fung Chun Fatt, who is also the deputy organising chairman, David Chan Chun Ket, Kapitan Lim Vun Chan, Ng Young Wah, and treasurer-general Chen Ee Sheng, while accompanying Idris were Senior Assistant Commissioners Datuk Zabidi Hj Md Zain, Datuk Mohd Salleh Yahya, and Assistant Commissioner, Khalid Zain, among others.
Idris assured that the police would assign a sufficient number of police officers and personnel to ensure that the race is safely and smoothly organized.
Meanwhile, in his briefing, Goh disclosed that after a two-year hiatus, due to Covid-19 pandemic and the ensuing movement control order (MCO), this year, the race will see the return of participants from Brunei, Sarawak, and Penang, besides an encouraging response from the local teams.
“Judging from the good response, we believe the coming race will be a spectacular and exciting one!” he said.
He further disclosed that other government agencies like the State Fire and Rescue Department, and the Malaysia Civil Defense Department (APM) too have promised to provide necessary assistance to the event.
The 2022/7th FCAS International Dragon Boat Race will be held from 1 – 3 July, and will culminate with the final races on 3 July, which will be officiated at by the the guest-of-honour, the Yang Di-Pertua Negeri, Tun Juhar Mahiruddin.
During the courtesy call, Goh also on behalf of FCAS extended his warm invitation to Idris to attend the said event.-pr/BNN
