KOTA KINABALU: Parti Solidariti Tanahairku (SabahStar) reiterates its call on the State Government to bar any persons who have a history of publicly making racist remarks from entering Sabah.
Its Vice President Kenny Chua said Sabahans reject any form of extremism that fuels racial and religious disharmony.
“Our stance is clear that any persons who have a history of making public statements that offend the feelings of people of other races or religions must be blacklisted from entering Sabah.”
“Sabahans are peace-loving people and we respect people of different races and religious beliefs,” he said in a statement after donating chairs to the Assumption of Our Lady Catholic church here, Tuesday.
Chua said this amid heavy criticisms leveled at PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang over his claim that non-Muslims and non-Bumiputeras are the ones most involved in causing corruption.
The Islamic party leader’s remarks invited criticisms from various personalities and interest groups, also even prompted Parti Rakyat Sarawak Vice President Datuk Liwan Lagang to demand that he be permanently blacklisted from entering Sarawak.
“Sabah, like Sarawak, is home to many indigenous ethnic communities and other races whose way of life has been that of mutual respect to one another.
“We can sit and eat on one table and have no problem with it. We don’t go around accusing other people because of their race and religion.
“In the case of corruption, we all know it is colour blind,” he said.
On the same note, Chua proposed for more state-level programmes and activities that further promote racial and religious harmony in Sabah.-pr/BNN
