Commemoration of the 78th Anniversary of Indonesian Independence

KOTA KINABALU: A Diplomatic Reception marking the 78th Anniversary of Indonesian Independence was held here recently.

The commemoration was marked with vibrant Diplomatic Reception that showcased a rich display of Indonesian cuisine and culture.

This Diplomatic Reception served as the culmination of the 78th Independence Day celebration at the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia in Kota Kinabalu.

The Grand Ballroom of The Magellan Suteraa transformed into a festive gathering attended by over 200 distinguished guests from various circles in Sabah, Malaysia.

It was attended by Sabah Head of State Tun Haji Juhar Datuk Haji Mahiruddin and his consort Toh Norlidah Tan Sri Datuk R.M. Jasni as the Guest of Honour. They were accompanied by the Chief Minister of Sabah, Datuk Hajiji Haji Noor, his wife, and other Sabah Ministerial Members.

The event was also graced by several Consul Generals and diplomatic corps from countries including Brunei Darussalam, the People’s Republic of China and Japan, among others.

Other attendees include representatives from the government, private sector, academia, non-governmental organisations, and the media in Sabah.

The evening commenced with a toast led by the Guest of Honour and the Consul General of the Republic of Indonesia.

During the event, the Consul General of the Republic of Indonesia, Rafail Walangitan spoke on the significance of Indonesian independence and the enduring friendship between Indonesia and Sabah.

He emphasised on the shared values, cultural ties, and economic cooperation between the two nations.

The event also showcased the rich tapestry of Indonesian culture through captivating performances.

Traditional dances from different regions of Indonesia mesmerised the audience, showcasing the diversity and vibrancy of the archipelago’s cultural heritage.-BNN Journalist
