KOTA KINABALU: Maxim Malaysia proudly took part in the Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang (KMJG) 2026, organised by the Department of Information Malaysia (JAPEN) Sabah. The initiative aimed to foster patriotism and bring the spirit of National Day celebrations closer to communities throughout Sabah.
The journey began in Kota Kinabalu on 1 August 2026 and continued throughout the month, with the team travelling across various districts including Penampang, Putatan, Papar, Tuaran, Sandakan, Tawau, and Lahad Datu. The tour culminated back in Kota Kinabalu on 31 August for the final KMJG event and Merdeka Parade.
Throughout this month-long endeavour, Maxim was actively involved alongside JAPEN Sabah, utilising its vehicles and presence to support activities and connect with local communities at different locations. As part of its contribution, Maxim provided RM50 ride promo codes to participants of KMJG activities, offering greater convenience and encouraging the use of accessible mobility during the celebrations.
This initiative exemplifies Maxim’s commitment to being more than just an e-hailing service provider. As a mobility platform serving communities across Sabah, Maxim views programmes like KMJG as meaningful opportunities to engage with the public, support local initiatives, and celebrate national unity.
“Maxim is proud and delighted to have been part of Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang 2026 from the very beginning until the Merdeka Parade in Kota Kinabalu. As a mobility provider serving Sabah’s communities, we see this as a wonderful chance to connect more closely with the people while honouring the spirit of independence and unity. Our RM50 ride promo codes for participants are a small gesture to support this journey and share the Merdeka spirit with the communities we serve. We are grateful to JAPEN Sabah for the opportunity and proud to contribute to this meaningful national celebration,” said Mohd Hazwan Musley, Director of Maxim Malaysia.
The KMJG 2026 programme brought the Jalur Gemilang and the spirit of Merdeka closer to Sabahans through various activities across districts. It also emphasised direct engagement with the public, including initiatives such as Langkah Jiwa Merdeka, which encouraged participants to walk alongside communities while promoting patriotism and national unity.
According to Jainisah Mohd Noor, Director of the Department of Information Malaysia, Sabah, the involvement of diverse partners and organisations is vital to ensuring that the message of National Month reaches a broad audience.
“Our challenge in Sabah has always been the vast geographical size of the state. However, through strategic collaboration with Maxim for KMJG 2026, JAPEN Sabah has successfully reached and engaged with a wide range of communities. The daily mobility provided by e-hailing vehicles offers a significant advantage in reaching grassroots populations, while also encouraging greater public participation in the celebration of National Month and Sabah Day.”
This collaboration highlights the important role that businesses can play in supporting national and community initiatives. For Maxim, participating in KMJG aligns with its broader commitment to contributing to the communities it serves, whilst continuing to provide accessible transportation and income opportunities for its local driver-partners.
From the first stop in Kota Kinabalu on 1 August to the final gathering and Merdeka Parade in Kota Kinabalu on 31 August, Maxim was honoured to journey alongside JAPEN Sabah and communities across the state in celebrating Malaysia’s independence.
This month-long involvement underscores Maxim’s belief that the true spirit of Merdeka is best celebrated through connection — bringing people together, supporting local communities, and contributing meaningfully to the nation.-pr/BNN
