MEMBAKUT: Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan) vice-president Datuk Junz Wong should not think he knows more about Sabah under USNO rule than those who actually lived through that darkest era of Sabah’s political history.
“ He wasn’t even born then, but he imagines he is qualified to talk like an authority about the USNO era. And because I pointed out the ugly truth of USNO rule he moves the goalposts by accusing me of using race to fish for votes. Does he think that just because he has become a YB and Datuk after the 14th general election that he is beyond criticism and some sort of ‘superior’ being?” PBS vice-president, Datuk Johnny Mositun said.
He was responding to Wong who had accused him of using racial politics to fish for votes in Kimanis.
According to him Wong should go and get a history lesson about the USNO era from people like Datuk Yap Pak Leong, Samuel Chin, Toh Puan Rahimah Stephens, Datuk Ariah Tunku Ahmad and even Tan Sri Harris Salleh.
He added that after Tun Mustapha became Chief Minister the state was run by the infamous Datuk Syed Kechik Bin Muhammed who actually ran the state like a dictator..
“ Even Mustapha’s own strongmen like Salleh Sulong, Harris Salleh were terrorized by Syed Kechik. The likes of Wong wouldn’t have lasted 24 hours in those circumstances,. Wong should learn our political history and understand that dark era of USNO rule,” he said.
Dismissing Wong’s allegations as childish, Mositun said they had no affect on him or PBS.
“Most of the PBS senior leaders of today grew up and lived through that difficult era. We have first hand knowledge and experience of dealing with USNO. It was nothing like Wong would have the people believe. It is amusing to hear Wong using words like “glorious, rich and dignified” to describe the USNO era. He should try asking a wide cross-section of Sabah’s Chinese community if they agree with him on that contention of his,” Mositun said.-pr/BNN
