- KUALA LUMPUR,: The Federation of Chinese Associations Malaysia (Huazong) in collaboration with its member associations continue to reach out to support those government agencies which are fighting Covid-19 pandemic in the frontlines.
The support given were in the forms of essential medical equipment like Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), food and beverage, and even free accommodation for medical staff who were required to undergo quarantine.
On Friday, Huazong presented 2,000 surgical masks to the Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department. They were handed over by Huazong vice president Datuk Ong Seng Khek to its director Nordin Pauzi. Ong was accompanied by Huazong deputy secretary-general cum acting Chief Executive Officer, Yong Yew Wei.
Ong noted that the said aid was in recognition of the Department’s crucial role in backing up the other frontliners, such as assisting the Ministry of Health in carrying out disinfection exercise in various affected areas, hence the need for surgical masks. Meanwhile, Huazong president Tan Sri T.C Goh said the Federation and its member associations would continue to raise funds from various quarters to assist those government agencies who are involved in fighting the pandemic in the frontlines.
“The response from various quarters to our ongoing fundraising campaign to fight Covid-19 has been encouraging, and we are truly grateful to all those individuals and corporations who generously contributed to the campaign in various forms,” he said.
In a statement issued today, Goh also disclosed that Huazong had received supplies of necessary aids from the offices of the Oversea Chinese Affairs in Guangdong and Shanghai, and that it was currently in the midst of distributing them to its member associations, for them to redistribute to those fighting the crisis at the frontlines.
He also commended its member associations for their continuous efforts of reaching out to provide necessary supports and assistances to the frontliners and the vulnerable groups in the society.
Goh who is also the president of The Federation of Chinese Associations Sabah (FCAS) disclosed that on last Thursday, FCAS sponsored 34 hotel rooms, for a period of seven days, for the group of frontliners of the Women and Children’s Hospital in Likas (WCHL) at the Oriental Hotel, Kota Kinabalau, for them to undergo quarantine.-pr/BNN
