KUALA LUMPUR :The Federation of Chinese Associations Malaysia (Huazong) has described US President Donald Trump’s move of blaming China for the Covid-19 pandemic besides threatening to severe bilateral ties with China, as a desperate attempt to divert attention from the Trump administration’s terrible fiasco of containing the pandemic.
In a scatting statement issued today, Huazong president Tan Sri T.C Goh said Trump and his close aides’ desperate attempts of resorting to all sorts of underhand tactics to frame China, in order to save their own skin, is a gross abuse of democracy and would not be tolerated by the Chinese people throughout the world, including those in Malaysia.
“Trump and his administration were obviously politicising and manipulating the COVID-19 pandemic and the Sino-US trade issue to gain political mileage for the coming US presidential election in November this year,” said Goh.
He asserted that, with the entire world is currently facing the devastating onslaught of the Covid-19 pandemic, all nations should come together and help each other in the fight against the pandemic, instead of fighting each other.
“Lest we forget that we are all in this (pandemic) together, hence regardless of the issue of fighting the pandemic or trade, the only option for us to get pass this global crisis and to achieve long-term peace, progress and prosperity, is to set aside our geopolitical differences, hegemony, and to encourage multilateral negotiations between countries,” he said.
Goh reiterated that, the dubious attempts of the senior US officials like its Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo and White House Trade and Manufacturing Policy Director Peter Navarro, to constantly fabricate and twist the facts to blame China for the novel coronavirus pandemic, and to seek for compensation from China, is unconvincing and unacceptable.
“It is an undeniable fact that since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, China has contributed tremendously and generously to many countries in the world, Malaysia included, in terms of sharing of vital information and essential medical resources towards fighting the pandemic,” Goh pointed out.
He also recalled that during the onset of the pandemic in China, early this year, Trump had even in numerous occasions commended and thanked China President Xi Jinping for having done a good job in containing the Covid-19 outbreak.
“But, of late, Trump seems to have had a change of heart and even threatened to cut ties with China. This clearly demonstrated his inconsistency and abrupt change of stand and attitude towards China, in order to serve his political agendas,” said Goh.
He was nonetheless convinced that China would not be easily intimidated by Trump’s threat to cut bilateral ties, but would resolve it with great calm and wisdom.-pr/BNN
