KOTA KINABALU: The notable absence of the oppositions particularly Keningau MP Datuk Dr Jeffrey Kitingan at the dialogue on immigration issues yesterday clearly showed that they were not interested in finding out the actual situation.

“They (oppositions) are only interested in whacking the government but they refused to find out the truth,” said Warisan Supreme Council member Martin Tommy in a statement here, today.

According to him, it was very disappointing as Kawang Assemblyman Datuk Gulam Haidar Khan was the only representative from the opposition who turned up.

“Where is Star President Datuk Dr Jeffrey Kitingan and the rest?”

“They have always been accusing Warisan of issuing MyKads to illegal immigrants and this is an opportunity for them to find out the truth,” he said.

During the dialogue, several issues including the IMM13 and citizenship had been discussed by the Sabah Immigration Director Datuk Musa Sulaiman and Sabah National Registration Director Datuk Ismail Ahmad.

Other issues raised were late birth registration, custom marriage and adoption as well as insolvency.

The dialogue was organised by the Legal Affairs Division together with the High Court of Kota Kinabalu High and Pusat Sumber Adat dan Mediasi Kaum Anak Negeri Sabah (PUSAKA).

It was held in hope to get the involvement from members of the Parliament and State legislative members to discuss issues as well as laws in Sabah.

The closing ceremony was officiated by De facto Law Minister Datuk Liew Vui Keong.

Also present was Deputy Home Minister Datuk Mohd Azis Jamman, Chief Judge for Sabah and Sarawak Datuk Seri Panglima David Wong Dak Wah, and Law and Native Affairs Minister Datuk Aidi Mokhtar.

Martin later said the event held had shown that the government  is transparent and has nothing to hide in regard to these issues. – pr/BNN
