KUALA LUMPUR: The Federation of Chinese Associations Malaysia (Huazong) too has joined the rest of the world in denouncing US President Donald Trump’s controversial move of halting funding to the World Health Organization (WHO).
Its president, Tan Sri T.C Goh opines that US president Donald Trump should not politicise the pandemic by making all sorts of baseless and ridiculous criticisms against China, besides instructing his administration to stop funding to the World Health Organization (WHO), by accusing the later of being too “China-centric” in its tackling of the Cocid-19 pandemic.
“All countries in the world, Malaysia included, should study and adopt the “China approach” in fighting the dreadful Covid-19 pandemic which shows no sign of improvement,” he said.
In a response issued today he stressed that, during this extraordinary challenging time when the entire human population is facing a serious threat from an ‘invisible enemy’, every single nation and organisation in the world including WHO, China, US and Malaysia, should be united in fighting the ‘common enemy’, which is none other than the Covid-19, instead of attempting to divert attention and abdicate responsibility by finding faults in others.
“We are all in this global crisis together; no nation is an island and can remain unaffected,” he reminded.
He thus hoped Trump could be more rational and to immediately rescind his order of halting US’s funding to WHO.
“Being the world’s sole remaining superpower after the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991, US should instead boost its funding to WHO to fight the pandemic together,” he added.
Goh went on to note that, currently China is gradually recovering from the pandemic after months of decisive measures in fighting the Coronavirus. This included lockdown of cities, tracking, quarantine and treatment of those who were infected, besides effective measures to contain the spread of the virus.
“China’s proven-and-successful methods should be emulated by all nations in the world,” he said.
He also acknowledged that China has been playing a pivotal role in helping Malaysia in its ongoing fight against the Covid-19, by getting its medical experts to advise and guide the Malaysian health authority through video conferencing, besides sending a sizeable amount of the necessary essential items like Personal Protective Equipments (PPEs) and surgical masks to Malaysia.
“The people of Malaysia at large are indeed very grateful to the constant show of concerns and generous assistance given by the Government of China through its Ambassador in Malaysia, Bai Tian,” he said.
Meanwhile, Goh also hoped the government could expedite the arrival of the Chinese medical team in Malaysia, to guide and assist us in fighting the pandemic.  -pr/BNN
