Tourists are always looking for something unique in the host countries to look at and admire. In fact, they would also be taking tons of photographs to bring home as a form of souvenirs. Local tourists may think they have seen everything in the country and feel they have nothing new to show for their vacations, but they can be wrong. Tourists can also look at and admire something unique that evoke nostalgia in some, within the State.
Even if one is a Sabahan, there are many places to go to if one wants to look at traditional houses. One of them is Kg Sawah, Tuaran where a traditional Lotud House stands proud. The house is built according to the specification of a typical Lotud house. Lotud is an ethnic group in the State, concentrated mainly in Tuaran and Tamparuli.
Salome Dominus the owner of the house says that she had it constructed as she wanted to share and showcase her traditional house to young people who had never seen and look at and appreciate local architecture. if they want to stay over, eight to 12 people can stay in at any one time, comfortably. There are lots of space to sleep, actually.
This place is quite informative for guests. In fact they jolt memories of what was, as there are showcases of a traditional kitchen and related paraphernalia, fish traps and nets as well as farming implements of yore. That’s a great way of learning another ethnic group’s culture or hone one’s knowledge on one’s won.
But the most interesting feature of Salome’s offering to the tourism industry is the tree house
The beautiful tree house is perched on a crop of hardwood just nearby for visitors to sit down and relax, and have some food if they so wish. It used to be just one deck before but now Salome has added another deck.
This allows her to host 50 pax on the top floor and more seated on six tables on the lower deck. She shares that the tree house is popular with people who wants to sit down for a meal, mostly traditional food, and enjoy the view.
The thousands of people who have visited the place love the ambiance, and some wants to stay overnight, but she shares that she could not allow them to sleepover at the tree house because it isn’t suitable for overnight stays.
There may be some addition to the view and ambiance of the Lotud House surrounding as Salome will construct a ‘Hobbit House’ there soon. So go on domestic discovery post MCO, visit the tree house.
