KOTA KINABALU: Parti Cinta Sabah (PCS) has urged the Election Commission and Health Ministry not to heed to Warisan president Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal’s call to provide space and SOP for Covid-19 patients to cast their vote on Sept 26.
Its president Datuk Seri Anifah Aman said he was puzzled, shock and worried in learning that Shafie would make such a call.
“I want to ask him whether or not he understood what is a pandemic,” he said in a statement.
He pointed out that the existing SOP is meant to separate Covid-19 patients and the public especially now that the number of cases has escalated.
“How could he put public health at risk just to win votes.
“Is he so blind and so desperate?” asked Anifah.
He acknowledged that voting is everyone’s right and those who are eligible must be allowed to do so.
He is of the view however that Covid-19 patients who are undergoing quarantine be allowed by the EC and Health Ministry to vote via post.
“This way they won’t have to leave the hospital or quarantine centre. It will also won’t interfere with their treatment.
“More importantly, they won’t be exposing themselves to others while at the same time they can still cast their vote,” he said.
He reminded everyone to play their role in reducing the risk of spreading the virus which the World Health Organisation has declared as extremely dangerous.
He said no one should underestimate the matter just to fulfil their personal agenda.-pr/BNN
