KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah United Chinese Chamber of Commerce(SUCCC) backed the Chief Minister Datuk Hajiji Noor’s decision to revive the state’s economic agenda and to alleviate the immediate situation.
The President of SUCCC Tan Sri Andrew Liew stated in a statement today said this move by the Chief Minister should not be suppressed by West Malaysia, because Sabah has continued to prevent the epidemic without any slack.
Chief Minister Hajiji announced in 28 June that Sabah would follow the National Recovery Plan and still used the standard operating procedures in the “FULL Lockdown Control Order”.
Andrew, who is also a Member of Sabah State Economic Advisory Committee pointed out that Hajiji considered the gradual restoration of economic operations under certain restrictions, that is, entering the stage of recovery as soon as possible to rescue the traumatic level that has been revealed since the FMCO, reflecting his concern on the state’s economy, impacted by the pandemic and the FMCO.
“SUCCC fully supports the Chief Minister’s measures, toimplements reasonable decisions in a timely manner to save the state’s economic situation. It should not be brought down by the federal government’s ‘high pressure’, he stated.
.
“We are confident that the state government will take the most stringent measures and actively respond to the restoration of the economy.”
“At the moment with the easing of the pandemic in many countries, major economic cities have also adopted restrictive measures, allowing dine-in in restaurants and tea houses among others, while observing social distancing and adhering to the permissible number of people seated at the same time.”
Andrew who is also vice chairman of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce Malaysia stressed on the differences between the situation in Sabah and West Malaysia.
“Of course the state government’s key to saving the state’s economy depends on many factors. The decision of Chief Minister can help the business community to get through this difficult period,” he said.
He said the the Chief Minister had been diligent and strived to balance the economy and the unpredictable pandemic.-pr/BNN
