KUALA LUMPUR,: The Federation of Chinese Associations Malaysia (Huazong) on Friday welcomed and supported prime minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s statement that Malaysia will enhance its ties with China.

He also hoped the prime minister could conduct an official visit to China for such a purpose.

He said, the ‘unity government’ led by Anwar could also through such diplomatic visits strengthen Malaysia’s bilateral ties with the international community.

Goh who is also a director of the Malaysia-China Business Council (MCBC) cum chairman of Malaysia-China bilateral policies bureau, said this in supporting the prime minister’s position in regards to Malaysia’s bilateral relations with China.

“As acknowledged by the prime minister, China is a key neighbour of Malaysia, who plays a pivotal role in the region, we should therefore give top priority to enhance our long-established diplomatic and trade relations with China; we in the Chinese community are absolutely glad that the prime minister had said that he would not just leave it (ties with China) as it is, but need it to be enhanced.”,” said Goh.

Goh who is also President of The Federation of Chinese Associations Sabah (FCAS) also supported the prime minister’s statement that, Malaysia under his helm would enhance ties with the United States of America, Europe, India and Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN).

He also welcomed and supported the prime minister’s emphasis that the new government would focus on stimulating economic growth, to form a new government that is based on the Federal Constitution, to treat Malaysians of all races fairly and to safeguard their fundamental rights, and to bring down the cost of living in the country, etc.

He added that, with the country currently in the midst of recovering from the devastations of the Covid-19 pandemic, it is paramount that the new government should forget about the ‘honeymoon period’, and to immediately start work to stimulate the economy, and to ensure political stability, so that Malaysians of all races could continue to live in peace and harmony.

He also wished that the ‘unity government’ could fully adopt the prime minister’s favourite mantra of “we are family”, in bringing Malaysia to greater heights.-pr/BNN
