KIULU: The youth of today have much to gain from observing the leadership of Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, who has maintained his composure and firmness in the face of recent political upheaval.

State Tourism, Culture, and Environment Assistant Minister Datuk Joniston Bangkuai remarked that Hajiji has demonstrated his leadership traits by overcoming attempts by political figures to destabilise the State governmernt while uniting other leaders of various political backgrounds in a time of crisis.

“Sabah requires a leader who will not sow discord but will instead work to establish and sustain stability for the good of all. Although Hajiji may come out as a reserved Chief Minister, his actions and ability to serve speak volumes.

“The young people have a lot of leaders to look up to and our youth can take away some valuable lessons from Hajiji’s leadership style who always has the interest of the people and State at heart,” he said at the 2.0 Sabah Maju Jaya Youth Outreach Programme here, on Sunday.

Joniston, who is also Gabungsn Rakyat Sabah (GRS) information chief and Kiulu assemblyman, said the Chief Minister gives special attention to youth issues and has included the youth agenda in the Sabah Maju Jaya development plan under the Human Capital and People’s Wellbeing.

He then encouraged the youth to participate in any initiatives and programmes run by the state government that were designed to improve their skills and provide support.

During the engagement, Joniston also called on the young people of Kiulu to act as a link between their peers and the state’s leaders.

He pushed the youth to take on leadership roles and advised that they begin by forming a Kiulu state constituency youth liaison committee as a first step.

“This can assist in the development of our future leaders, allowing them to realise their full potential.

“Through such a committee, the young people would have a proper channel of communicating with me and engage in a constructive progressive discussion concerning youth issues in Kiulu,” he said.

The Sabah Chief Minister’s Department’s Institut Kerjasama Kerajaan dan Rakyat (IKRAR) collaborated with the Persatuan Cakna Masyarakat Sabah (PEMERKASA) and Sahabat IKRAR, to organise the youth outreach programme. IKRAR director Azrul Ibrahim was present at the event.-pr/BNN
