SERDANG: The ‘unity government’ must adopt a ‘zero tolerance’ policy to stop groups and individuals, politicians included, from making extreme speech which could undermine peace, stability and progress in the country, said Tan Sri T.C Goh, President of The Federation of Chinese Associations Malaysia (Huazong).
He said, this was necessary in view of the growing trend of some politicians making extreme speech of race and religion in nature, of late, which has reached a worrisome state and causing deep concern to many peace-loving Malaysians.
He thus hoped the government could adopt tough measures to effectively curb such a destructive trend, before it gets out of hand.
Goh, who is also President of The Federation of Chinese Associations Sabah (FCAS) urged this while speaking at the fundraising dinner hosted by Serdang Ga Hou Tong (SGHTFA) Fellowship Association at Yeoh Tiong Lay Auditorium, in Wisma Huazong here, last Sunday. It was aimed chiefly to raise funds for SGHTFA’s Education and Charity Fund.
Also in attendance were Chang Lih Kang, Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Frankie Chong, Deputy President of Malaysia Ga Hou Tong Fellowship Association, Vice Chairman of The World Saw Clan Association, Tan Sri Sow Chin Chuan, President of The Federation of Malaysia Chinese Commerce Association (FEMACCA) Datuk Lim Kim Song, and the Organising Chairman of the event, Voon Siew Sheng, among others
Goh reminded that Malaysia has always been a multiracial, multicultural and multi-faiths country, since independence, and it is a unique feature that is the pride of our nation.
He thus expressed deep concern that, of late, there were some politicians who were increasingly radical with their speeches and actions, such as gradually banning sale of alcoholic drinks and licensed gaming operations, besides peddling the narrative of the ‘unity government’ being dominated by non-Malays, etc.
“Malaysia has been a multiracial and multi-faiths country since independence, and the rights and positions of all races are clearly stipulated in the Federal Constitution. Hence, no one should attempt to manipulate it to achieve their political agendas!” he stressed.
Meanwhile, he also commended SGHTFA for its commitment to serve the community through its charity and education programmes.-pr/BNN
