KUALA LUMPUR: Tan Sri T.C Goh has been appointed as the Chairman of the Malaysia-China Business Council (MCBC) Executive Committee.
His appointment takes effect immediately until the appointment of the new chairman of MCBC.
The seven-member Executive Committee will be attending to MCBC’s daily affairs including holding receptions for foreign dignitaries and delegations, among others.
In regards to its Special Envoy to China portfolio, it will be continued to be held by Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister, Datuk Seri Tiong King Sin, until a suitable candidate is appointed to succeed him. However, he will no longer have the executive powers. This was in respect of the soon-to-be-appointed/announced new Special Envoy to China in the Prime Minister’s Department. Hence, the newly-minted Executive Committee will be carrying out the relevant duties during this transition period.
The seven-members MCBC Executive Committee is comprising of Tan Sri T.C Goh (Chairman); Committee members, Datuk Yong Teck Shing, Dato’ Dr Jennifer Low, Datuk Richard Lee , Datuk Alvin Tee, *Samuel Lee,* Chief Executive Officer, and Chief Operating Officer, *Georgia Too.*
In a statement issued today, the Executive Committee disclosed that all the said appointments which took place during its recent meeting have been fully endorsed by Tiong, and would take effect immediately.
The Executive Committee also unanimously appointed Goh as its Chairman.
Goh, who is currently also Chairman of its Malaysia-China Bilateral Policy Committee will be heading the MCBC Executive Committee, until the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announces the new Chairman of MCBC.
“The tenure of the current MCBC Executive Committee will last until further notice, or until the appointment of the new Chairman of MCBC,” it noted.
To recap, the Prime Minister had during an interview by the media, at the end of his China visit on 1 April this year, said he would decide on the appointment of the Special Envoy to China, within the next few months.
According to tradition, the candidate of the Special Envoy to China was usually the Chairman of the MCBC.-pr/BNN
