KOTA KINABALU: The distinctive flavours bubur lambuk was given a dash of Sabah with a unique version through local ingredients.
The Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Arts (MOTAC) Sabah was instrumental in introducing this unique version of Ramadan Bubur Lambuk during an event held at Kg Kobuni, Kionsom.
This new addition to the menu was created by the Homestay Desa Cinta Kobuni, a group of 13 registered operators in Kampung Kobuni, Inanam, during the “Bah, bubur lambuk cara kita” program held at Pisompuruan Hall, recently.
“Unlike the traditional bubur lambuk, the Sabah version incorporates local ingredients such as comb mushrooms, anchovies, salted egg, and red hill rice. The dish is mixed with minced chicken and does not include coconut milk, giving it a distinct taste from the state,” Noorshanti Huddin from MOTAC’s Development Unit, said.
MOTAC Sabah organised the programme in collaboration with Kota Kinabalu City Hall, Tourism Malaysia Sabah, Sabah Tourism Board, and Adabi Sabah Distribution Sdn Bhd, she shared.
As part of the Malaysia Homestay Experience programme, the Continuing Tourism Related Education (CTRE) course was conducted for 30 members of the Sabah Tourist Guides Association (STGA) and the Sabah Native Registered Tourist Guide Association (PBBNS). The tourist guides were given hands-on experience in preparing the heritage bubur lambuk recipes of the Sabah version, enabling them to promote it to visitors.
To share the Sabah bubur lambuk with the community, 3,000 containers was distributed to adjacent villages in Kampung Kionsom Besar, Kampung Kionsom Kecil, Kampung Kiapad Kampung Kitobu, as well as the Mari Mari Cultural Village.
Additionally, the bubur lambuk was delivered to frontliners at the Kota Kinabalu International Airport, including airline companies, immigration officers, and customs officers on duty.
On homestays, Sabah currently has 36 clusters of homestay programs in various districts, with a total of 470 registered operators under MOTAC. This initiative not only highlights the unique flavors of Sabah but also supports the local homestay industry and provides opportunities for tourist guides to enhance their knowledge and promote Sabah’s culinary heritage.
