KOTA KINABALU: A memorandum of understanding (MOU) was recently signed between the University College Sabah Foundation (UCSF) and Shangri-La Tanjung Aru (STAR) at the Shangri-La Tanjung Aru in Kota Kinabalu.
The MOU was signed by Datuk Dr. Rafiq Idris, Vice Chancellor of UCSF, and Conor Hadlington, General Manager of STAR. The signing ceremony was attended by Hanafiah Diman, Corporate Secretary of Yayasan Sabah, and Douglas Joinol, Chief Operating Officer of Innoprise Corporation Sdn. Bhd., along with management and staff from both UCSF and STAR.
Hadlington emphasized the significance of the MOU, stating, “This collaboration marks a crucial step toward strengthening ties between academia and the hospitality industry. We are proud to formalize this relationship through the signing of this MOU. This partnership will create opportunities for training, internships, and career advancement, benefiting not only UCSF and Shangri-La Tanjung Aru but also the broader tourism and hospitality sector in Sabah.”
Datuk Dr. Rafiq Idris remarked, “This MOU establishes a framework for cooperation that is mutually beneficial for both parties.”
He highlighted the organizations’ commitment to collaboration in various areas, including providing internship placements for UCSF students and engaging in educational initiatives.
“This partnership has the potential to cultivate skilled professionals ready to lead in global eco-tourism ventures,” he added.
Dr. Rafiq expressed confidence that the MOU will enhance collaboration and generate benefits for UCSF, STAR, and various stakeholders across Sabah.-pr/BNN
