KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Environmental Protection Association (SEPA) welcomes the assurance from Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor that his administration has not issued any mining licenses.

“The issuing of mining permits is subjected to stringent EIA scrutiny and SEPA sits in all
Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) meetings of the Environment Protection
Department (EPD). We are glad that thus far, many robust discussions have been
carried out” says Alexander Yee, president of SEPA. “EPD has been transparent and
open to suggestion and we certainly look forward to this positive working relationship to
continue” added Alexander.

Sabah’s leaders must safeguard the state’s natural heritage, as they are custodians for
future generations, requiring the support of all elected representatives to ensure these
resources are protected and preserved for the long-term benefit of all.

SEPA was registered on 12 th November 1983, a body that promotes environmental
awareness, education, and conservation with the people and for the people of Sabah.-pr/BNN
